Description and Purpose
The Parts Department Trainee, designed for new hires aged 16 and 17, will assist the parts department in providing excellent customer service while learning all aspects of the parts department.
Duties and Responsibilities Check parts in and put away in proper locations.
Notify appropriate parties when special-order parts arrive.
Pull parts for customer orders and Outside sales delivery.
Ship out parts using freight companies (LTL and ground shipping).
Keep display area updated, organized, and priced according to sales fliers Keep parts area clean and uncluttered.
Assists all customers (retail and shop) in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional and efficient manner.
Answers phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
Utilize computer and catalog to determine part number and price.
Informs customers of companion part requirements and specials and ensures that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
Inform customer on substitution or modification of part when identical replacement is not available.
Notifies parts manager of out-of-stock parts or shop materials that need immediate attention.
Locates out-of-stock parts from outside source and submits an emergency order, if necessary.
Follows up on back-ordered parts.
Notifies the customer when special ordered parts have been received.
Receives payment from retail customers or obtains credit authorization.
Ensures that the customer signs all charge sales.
Ensures that all customers receive their copy of the invoice.
Keeps current on new products and product updates.
Participates with the parts manager in maintaining a lost sales tracking program.
Complete training requirements for the parts department Maintains professional appearance.
Attend scheduled parts meetings.
Other tasks as assigned.
Prohibited Activities Driving a Company Vehicle Operating a Forklift Using the Key Cutting Machine Using the Flywheel Grinding Machine Operating the Cardboard Compactors Operating a Chop Saw Dispensing any hazardous chemicals Using or operating any motorized equipment including but not limited to, any tools with abrasive cutting discs or cutting blades.

Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations It is preferred that the Parts Department Trainee possess a valid driver’s license.
